Lithium-Ion Battery Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Rapid Scooter Master. Your safety is our utmost priority. This policy outlines important information regarding the use, handling, and maintenance of lithium-ion batteries in our E-Scooters and E-Bikes. Please read this policy carefully to ensure safe usage and to understand your responsibilities.

2. Disclaimer

Rapid Scooter Master is a retailer of electric scooters and electric bikes. All products we supply are required to pass electrical and safety testing, and CE certifications are verified to the best of our ability. However, it is important to understand that lithium-ion batteries carry inherent risks, regardless of brand or manufacturer. These batteries are highly sensitive components that can become unstable over time, especially if damaged, overcharged, exposed to extreme temperatures, or used improperly. In rare cases, this may lead to fire, smoke, or thermal runaway.

By purchasing and using our products, you acknowledge and accept these risks. You agree to follow all safety instructions provided by the manufacturer and to take appropriate care when charging, storing, and operating lithium-powered devices. Rapid Scooter Master is not the manufacturer and does not accept liability for any injury, damage, or loss resulting from battery-related incidents including but not limited to those caused by improper handling, misuse, degradation over time, manufacturing defects, spontaneous failure or failure to conduct routine battery safety check and inspection of at least once a month.

This disclaimer does not affect your statutory rights or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

3. General Safety Guidelines

  • Read the Manual: Always read and understand the user manual before operating our products.
  • Authorized Accessories: Use only Rapid Scooter Master-approved batteries and chargers.
  • Avoid Physical Damage: Do not puncture, crush, or subject the battery to mechanical shock.
  • Keep Dry: Do not expose the battery to water or other liquids.
  • Child Safety: Keep batteries out of reach of children and pets.
  • Avoid Enclosed Space: Never take battery to any enclosed space with no route to escape in case of emergency. (i.e elevators)

4. Charging Instructions

  • Use the Correct Charger: Always use the manufacturer-approved charger. If you notice damage or wear, replace it with an official charger from a reputable retailer.
  • Supervised Charging Only: Charge only while you are awake and at home. Never leave batteries charging overnight or unattended.
  • Follow Instructions: Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions regarding charging duration and procedures.
  • Charge in a Safe Environment: Use a well-ventilated area, away from combustible or flammable materials such as curtains, carpets, or furniture.
  • Choose a Contained Area: Choose a charging location where, in the event of a fire, it can be contained and not easily spread to flammable materials nearby.
  • Install Smoke or Heat Alarms: Ensure that areas used for charging—especially kitchens, garages or utility rooms—are equipped with working smoke or heat alarms. Heat detectors are recommended in non-living areas.
  • Check Before Use: Inspect the battery and charger for damage before every charge. If in doubt, do not use the product until it has been assessed by a qualified technician.
  • Prevent Overcharging: Unplug the charger once the battery is fully charged. Do not exceed the recommended charging time stated in the user manual.
  • Keep Batteries Uncovered: Never cover chargers or battery packs during charging. Obstructed airflow can lead to overheating and increase fire risk.
  • Socket Safety: Avoid overloading sockets. Use uncoiled extension leads that are appropriately rated for the output of your charger if necessary.
  • Charging Location Matters: Do not charge batteries in escape routes, hallways, or communal areas of multi-occupancy buildings, as this can block emergency exits in the event of fire.

5. Storage Guidelines

  • Cool and Dry Place: Store batteries in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat or cold.
  • Partial Charge for Storage: If storing for extended periods, keep the battery at 40–60% charge to reduce stress and degradation.
  • Avoid Temperature Extremes: Do not store below -10°C or above 45°C, and avoid uninsulated sheds or areas with wide temperature fluctuations.
  • Keep Away from Metals: Avoid storing batteries near metal objects that could cause a short circuit.
  • Store in a Safe, Contained Area: Choose a storage location where, in the event of a fire, it can be contained and not easily spread to flammable materials nearby.
  • Avoid Escape Routes: Do not store e-bikes or e-scooters in stairwells, corridors, or shared exit routes—especially in multi-occupancy buildings—where they could obstruct evacuation.
  • Shared Space Risk: Property managers and landlords should assess and manage the risks of storing or charging devices in communal bike rooms, mobility stores, or hallways.
  • Follow Manufacturer Storage Guidance: Always follow the original storage and maintenance instructions provided by the manufacturer if the battery or product will be unused for a long period.

6. Handling and Transportation

  • Secure Handling: Ensure the battery is secure during transportation to prevent damage.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Comply with all local regulations regarding the transportation of lithium-ion batteries.
  • No Air Transport: Do not transport damaged batteries by air.

7. Maintenance and Inspection

  • Regular Checks: Inspect the battery regularly for signs of wear, damage, or swelling.
  • Professional Service: Do not disassemble or modify the battery. Repairs should only be conducted by authorized technicians.
  • End-of-Life: Replace the battery when it reaches the end of its useful life or shows signs of degradation.

8. Emergency Procedures

  • Overheating: If the battery becomes hot to the touch, emits an odor, or behaves abnormally, discontinue use immediately.
  • Fire Safety: In case of fire, do not attempt to extinguish it. Get out, stay out, and call 999. If a suitable Class D extinguisher is available and safe to use, it may be used on lithium fires.
  • First Aid: If battery electrolyte comes into contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical attention.

9. Disposal and Recycling

  • Do Not Incinerate: Never dispose of batteries in a fire or incinerator.
  • Proper Disposal: Do not place batteries in general waste or household recycling bins. Damaged batteries can ignite during waste handling. Use appropriate recycling points.
  • Manufacturer Recycling: Check if your e-scooter or e-bike manufacturer offers a battery recycling scheme.
  • Local Authority Support: Contact your local authority to find designated lithium battery recycling facilities in your area.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Help protect the environment by disposing of batteries safely and legally.

10. Customer Responsibilities

  • Compliance: Adhere strictly to all guidelines and instructions provided.
  • Local Laws: Be aware of and comply with all local regulations concerning lithium-ion battery usage and disposal.
  • Incident Reporting: Report any safety incidents or concerns to Rapid Scooter Master immediately.

11. Limitation of Liability

Rapid Scooter Master shall not be held responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from battery-related incidents, as the risk of fire is inherent to lithium-ion technology. This includes, but is not limited to, property damage, personal injury, or loss of life resulting from failure to follow the safety guidelines outlined in this policy.

12. Warranty Information

  • Coverage: The battery warranty covers manufacturing defects under normal use for 6-months.
  • Exclusions: The warranty does not cover damage resulting from misuse, abuse, or failure to follow this policy.
  • Claims: For warranty claims, please contact our customer service with proof of purchase and a detailed description of the issue.
